Phillips Rebounds From DNF With 5th Place Finish At Merrittville

After a disapointing night at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night the Kyle Phillips Racing team went back to the shop to access the damage.
The team went to work Saturday morning to fix the damage and headed to Merrittville Speedway for the Southern Ontario Sprints tour race.
In hotlaps a vibration was felt in the car and thinking is was a bad wheel changed wheels for the heat race, however the vibration did not go away. The crew went too work and changed the drive shaft between the heat and the feature event.
Starting in the 12th position in the feature event Phillips wasted no time heading to the front as he passed 3 cars on the first lap putting himself in 9th and gained 2 more spots on laps 7 and 9. On lap 12 Phillips moved into 6th position and started to chase down 5th place runner Travis Cunningham. Phillips completed the pass on Cunningham on lap 21 and started to chase down 4th place runner Darren Dryden who was 2.5 seconds ahead of him. Phillips was able to close up the gap on Dryden but ran out of time and crossed the line in 5th when the checkers flew. Phillips claimed the hard charger award gaining 7 spots in the main event.
